A Cup of Unexpected Fulfillment

The last few days were busy.
There was music, shows, people and festivities.
By the time we packed up and were heading for home it was almost 12 AM.
12 AM, 31st December, 2021.

Shuvo bhai and I found a tea vendor and couldn't resist. We were so busy, it would be our first cup of the evening. We ordered the usual. Shuvo bhai lit up a cigarette.

I have already gone past that 'new years' hype, and with all the turmoil in the world, I had some bad things prepared to say about the coming year. But something unexplainable was about to happen. We got our tea and after the first or second sip, the clock struck 12.00 AM. The streets were empty, broken sound from soundboxes at rooftop parties was faintly making it to our ears, the cold was seeping through our clothes, fireworks and lanterns were beginning to appear in the sky.

At that exact, extraordinarily mundane moment something....everything felt content. The shows, the festivals, the excitement, the things I lost, the things I was about to loose, the bad things, the good things - nothing mattered anymore. Just two guys sipping tea with not a care for tomorrow at least, in this empty, melancholic, chilly night seemed precious. Everything felt in tune. A mundane cup of tea, like some magical elixir, made up for the turmoil and confusion that has been the last few years. A humbling, divine calm!

A simple cup of tea right at the end of the year.

A cup of unexpected fulfillment....
